Today I walked across a lake

Updated: Nov 18, 2022

I had driven to the end of the road just to see what I'd find. I came to Kill Kare state park. I walked around for a while enjoying the beautiful sites and when I started back I saw a little peninsula curving out from the shore into Lake Champlain. I had a desire to walk out to the end of it. When I got out there I was so amused at the little creatures popping in the water. I'm still not sure if it was tiny fish breaking the water's surface or literally hundreds of tiny frogs 🐸 jumping in or something else. Either way, it was amusing to me and I stood there for a while just watching the bubbles.

Once those subsided I looked around again, amazed at the beauty of the area, the rugged shores with many different kinds of trees, the gulls and cormorants sitting at the other shore and flying overhead. The great blue heron standing so still watching for his opportune timing.

And the sailboats and fishing boats scattered around the lake. The sky was a beautiful blue with little puffy clouds everywhere. I stepped into the water and it was warm and shallow. I began walking towards the other shore. I wonder can I get there? I keep walking. The water never gets to my knees and soon I'm there on the other shore. I'm alone on an island, with no one else there.

Oh, I'm in heaven. 🄰The rocks and shells and dried kelp crackle under my feet as the waves gently wash up on the shore. I can see signs that the water has been much more extreme at some point in the past. I hear an eagle call. I walk around my own private island for a long while engrossed in the solitude. Then finally, reluctantly I cross back through the lake. It's different this time because I know I'll get to the other shore. There's no question with each step, just joy, and peacefulness. I'm so in love with this life. ā£ļø
